One of the natural attractions of the Central Gobi, less than 230 km from the capital. These are diverse granite rock formations interspersed with canyons and green valleys. However, the highest mountain in this National Park reaches 1,768 meters above sea level. A very pleasant place for individual exploration with caves, springs and historical remains. At the entrance there are information boards also with short information in English.

We were told by our tour guide that this is the Mongolia version of Grand Canyon. It is very beautiful rock formation and it took us at least 6 hours or more from Ulaanbaatar to reach here. The road to this sight can be very bumpy, but many amazing views along the journey where cattle, horses, camel, etc can be seen along the road trip. An amazing nature in Mongolia!

Nice place for an interesting hike to the top, and lots of scrambling & bouldering opportunities in the rock formations. We saw some prehistoric drawings on the rocks too. We didn't stay overnight, but it looks like a good place for an overnight camp with views of the night sky and photo opportunities.

AMAZING day of SPECTACULAR ‘firsts’
• 1st attraction in the heart of the steppe
• 1st of 10-day road trip of Central Mongolia
• 1st ride in a Russian Van ‘loaf of bread’
• 1st journey on the Mongolian Steppe
• 1st road encounter with grazing goat, sheep, Bactrain camels
• 1st night in a GER
"Hiking'' popped into my mind once Baga Gazriin Chuluu ‘pile of rocks’ came into view. Arranged in a unique formation, Mother Nature has stacked together flat layers of granite rocks to form towers, ridges and columns, wind-polishing the granite canyon rock face into interesting shapes such as ‘melted marshmallows’ (as described by other travellers).
With zero expectations, I totally enjoyed my exploration on foot, wandering randomly, climbing up and down the rocky maze, easily. Decorative cairns atop the many peaks of the stone massif point skywards, in tribute to Nature’s handiwork. Baga Gazriin Chuluu covers a 15km x 10km area with a narrow canyon surrounded by plains.
Nearby, the ruins of the 17th Century Choir Monastery is also well worth a visit. Totally enclosed by granite mountains, very little of the temple structure remains, besides the abundance of birch trees in pretty autumn colours of yellow. From the ruins, head up the stone cliff for a stunning view of the surrounding area. Again, I could have hiked here the whole day, enjoying the amazing scenery.
Located in the centre of Dundgobi, Middle Gobi province, the 1st half of the 230km journey from UB is on paved road. After lunch, it’s off-road, following track marks on the steppe. Another plus is the grazing animal herds spotted – goats, sheep, gazelles and Bactrian camels.
That night we stayed at a nomad’s family GER. The hosts invited us to visit, offering us Milk Tea and some animal organs pastry. The host’s modern yet traditional GER has beds, cabinets, a wash basin, washing machine, TV, wood stove, while a solar panel and satellite dish are placed outside. Best of all, with surrounding rocks nearby, we managed another hike before dinner, even as the sun set.
Our 6-bed GER had blankets, a cabinet, vanity stand, low table, stools and a wood stove. As for the pit latrines located a little further away, just use it when you have to. It becomes less of an issue after the first time.
Quick facts on Mongolia I should have known before the trip
• It’s the most sparsely populated nation is the world, after Greenland
• There are 20x more livestock than humans
• It’s the world 2nd largest producer of Cashmere goat’s wool
• Ulaanbaatar is the world’s chilliest capital city
• About 50% of the population of three million live in the city
• It’s the 18th largest country in the world
• It’s the world’s second-largest landlocked country, after Kazakhstan

We spent two nights in the ger camp near here. The location is stunning with interesting granite rock formations.
We did a half day hike through the range and saw wildlife such as horses, gerbil, Tolai hare, Asian viper and vultures. There are also old monastery ruins, a cave and special water spring.
The accommodation at Bayangol was comfy and I really enjoyed the sunset and sunrise from the rocks behind. The room includes beds, bedding and towels. The ablution block was basic but a new one was in its final stages of being built. There is a bar which sells beer and vodka.
There is also a nice area behind the gers to walk in. Look for the giant ram and writing scripts on rocks nearby.
Was one of our favourite areas in Mongolia as it is away from the main tourist areas.

Salve a tutti.

Who can tell me a little bit about the travel agency they used for this trip? Planning on visiting, but would prefer to book locally!
Any information, tips or hints are welcome!

This answer maybe too late but we travelled with Eternal Landscapes touring this area and the Gobi. Recommended.
