The interior of the temple was nice once we managed to get inside, especially wince it had the deity/figure of Banke Bihari, the combined form of both Krishna & Radha, inside but getting there was rather chaotic as the temple was quite overcrowded with hardly any queue management in place which meant that I and my family had to get around the temple by either pushing through the huge crowd or getting pushed with the enormous amount of people.

My other issues with the place was that 1) there was no shoe storage facility within the temple complex which meant leaving our shoes in a shop some distance away and walking barefoot across the roads which weren't particularly clean or well maintained (I was willing to bare that for the temple but a shoe storage facility within the temple would be nicer in future) and 2) some of the "panda"/priest people in the area are a bit dodgy as some of them are out to scam people (which was what the one with my family seemed to have an intention of doing). I also advise anyone visiting to take good care of your personal belongings as there were lots of monkeys in the area and we were warned that the monkeys could steal some personal belongings, including mobile phones and glasses/sunglasses (keep them in your pockets/secure bags if monkeys are in sight - that being said I think phones generally aren't allowed inside the temple).

Overall, the central bit of the temple was the only bit I liked and I'm not sure I'd revisit this place unless I'm with a different person or different group of people and unless the queue management and other issues (especially show storage) improve in the future. If I were to visit Vridavan/Mathura again later on in life, I'd make sure that I also visit the Shree Krishna Janmashtan Temple Complex, or go there instead (I do wish I went there instead of Banke Bihari but there wasn't enough time for that sadly, maybe next time).

If I could rate this 0 or less I would.
Please please avoid !
After a blessing from the priest and a garland offering , a donation was requested for just over £100..for names to be engraved on stone to be placed around the temple.
Luckily we said no at which point the priest said it’s just £100 !!! ( Try an earn that in the UK mate) no disrespect but that was so pushy and unnecessary!
We did. However leave £5 which I think would have gone straight into his pocket!
I’m all for giving don’t get me wrong but this pushy sales tactics in the name of god isn’t good.
Do go if you want but under no circumstances pay them anything ! They will say we accept card where is your card ? You’re travelling and you don’t have a card ? So they’ll try all the tricks so please please be extra cautious !

The temple is a must visit for people on a pilgrimage or visiting Mathura as a tourist, it is one of the holiest temples for followers of Krishna.

Getting darshan is a nightmare with no crowd control or queue management, its might is right, so if you have elders traveling with you, take care. Many temples in the rest of India with a larger number of visitors have a far better management of darshan.

Beware of the alms seekers outside the temple, you give to one, there is a horde of them surrounding you and getting aggressive.

Beware of monkeys around who will take anything you have in your hands or your spectacles (keep them in your pockets).

Vrundavan is a holy town, "Radhey Radhey" is written and spoken everywhere. It is believed that the idol at Banke Bihari temple has Radhaji with Krishna, even though we can only have Darshn of Krishna!!!
It is very beautiful and one should not miss out on visiting it while in Mathura-Vrundavan.
Nidhi Van is very close to this temple, so you plan accordingly.
Just a suggestion--if you can, get the services of a local guide, because the small lanes that lead to these two places can be confusing. At Banke Bihari temple, we get the shoes out at gate 1 or 2 and when we exit the temple we end up at different gate. It can be mind boggling to manage to come back to the shoes place. Also, going out to get the E-rickshaw can be difficult due to huge crowds and small, winding lanes. The car can not go in these lanes, so your car will be parked in a parking lot, while you take E-rickshaw and go there. Be sure to know the exact parking lot and the monuments around it, because on your return the E-rickshaw person will choose if he wants to allow you or not depending upon your location.

I was on a visit to Delhi and decided to visit Mathura. At Vrindavan, I went to pray at Banke Bihari temple. The way to get to the temple is through narrow roads choc-a-bloc with people, shops, street sellers and animals. Cows amble along and the monkey menace is unimaginable. One is often told to remove spectacles by other devotees as monkeys snatch it.

As if this hurdle to the temple is not enough, the moment one steps into the temple, the real race starts here. One is aghast at the virtual stampede inside the temple. People jostle, push, claw back to reach the sanctum sanctorum where the Lord is visible for a few minutes before the curtain draws back.

I had to climb over two people who refused to budge after watching the god. My body was hanging over the wooden railings with the upper part of my body dangling to see the Lord, the stomach plastered to the wooden railing and the lower part of my body nearly off the floor. What should I be praying to at this angle? I am battling people all through for a vision of the Lord.

Beware of touts who promise to take you to the Lord for worship. Anyone can get lost and separated from friends and family in this crowd. This temple visit was a terrible experience.

I and my family went to Vrindavan Temple on 13th Dec'2023 and it was a very terrible experience. The temple closes at 8pm however to my surprise it was opened for us at 9.30pm, we were in a package tour. There was this pandit named shri brijbihari thakur.shree dawoodjee maharaj who runs a business of religiously blackmailing the tourist. The moment he finished his preaching, there was a group of people approaching devotees to donate 16000, 8000, 4000 and so on. All the people are thugs who are making a fool of devotees in the name of religion. Request to look into this as we are creating a bad image of such a sacred place

The temple opens at 8:45 am/9:45 am in summer and winter and closes at 12:00 pm/1:00 pm. It reopens at 4:30 pm/5:30 pm and closes at 8:30 pm/9:30 pm. The darshan window is short, and every tourist comes to Vrindavan to have darshan of Shri Banke Bihari. Additionally, the lane leading to the temple is narrow, and on weekends and holidays, the area is super crowded. Special care should be taken of elderly people and children as they may get lost in the crowd. It's advisable to fix a meeting place in case of such incidents. Mobiles are allowed, but photography inside is not permitted. Please avoid placing your footwear in front of any shop as they may be displaced. There is a shoe stand in front of one entry gate.
If possible, contact a person who can take you inside for darshan. Many are available in the area, and while they may initially quote Rs. 100/- per person, you can negotiate for a lower price. This can be helpful as they are familiar with the place and can guide you more efficiently through the crowd. There is no specific queue or special darshan. Inside, there is an open area, allowing you to stand anywhere and have darshan of Banke Bihari. You may observe that the priest frequently draws a curtain on the idol of Bihariji. This is because they believe that if any devotee sees Bihariji for an extended time, their lord may go with them. To prevent this, the curtain is drawn at certain intervals.

Bolo Banke Bihari lal ji jai

This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and attracts devootes as honey attracts bees. Weekends and public holidays very rush, but many doors helps devottes to enter from different ways and have darshan.
beware of thugs and thiefs.
don't get into trap of special darshan by the thugs there.
beware of monkeys, they snatch your specticals / purse - if they do so just buy a frooti and throw at them they would return the goods.

It is very very very crowded throughout the year..

One needs to walk through narrow crowded lanes a lot to reach this temple .

Taking our own vehicle is not advisable.

Be careful of footwears as you can go from 1 lane and can come out from other which creates confusion.

Be careful of your mobiles and specs from monkeys.

Their is no management or proper queue system to manage the crowd.
