We stayed at the lodge for 5 days as part of our ski/snowboarding trip. We chose to stay here as we wanted to experience the Japanese culture and we loved every minute of it. If you have not stayed at a traditional accommodation, there are a few thinks you should be aware of: - Japanese style bedrooms, you sleep on extremely comfortable futons on the floor. - Onsen Hot Springs, no privet showers. There’s nothing better than a hot Onsen after a long day on the slopes. - Japanese breakfast, delicious Japanese style breakfast, mainly pickled vegetables, rice and fish. The location is great, close to bars and restaurants. Short walk to the gondola or the free shuttle bus. Very clean and the staff was extremely friendly, very limited English so study up on your Japanese. Only note I would make is, that the lodge was a bit tricky to find as the hotel name was only displayed in Japanese writing. If you want the true Japanese experience and a place to feel at home, this is the place for you!!

I'm stayed 5 nights I got very very nice hospitality with the best price. The staff was very kind every time. When I went to ski, they told me the famous places with good snow. They had a lot of knowledge in Hakuba. You can feel traditional Japan in here bout meals, rooms and onsen. Meal type was Japanese home cooking. It was not gorgeous but very good tasty and very healthy. The staff talked friendly and gave good information about Hakuba, They even spoke English a little. It made me so happy. If you choose here you will get the best travel memory.

Great Japanese Ryokan (Inn) with very friendly owner, Keiko, who prepares nice breakfast and dinner for an affordable price around $80 per person (which works out to $50 per night for the bed and $30 for breakfast and dinner). The building used to be an old wharehouse which they converted into an Inn so it has some historical touches. Also only 5-10 minute walk from Nakiyama Lift. Only drawback is the fact you have to share a bathroom down the hall. However, many Ryokan's are very formal but this one is relaxed. Can be noisy on the weekends when full.

Room Japanese style.. Basic.. Stayed 1 week had no room clean or servicing of room in that time. Breakfast not worth it.. Japanese style (preserved fish, rice, cold pickles) Cold and not fresh (placed on table at 7am, even if you plan to eat at 9am). Save the money and eat outside. Location is good. Onsen onsite is nice. Shower is in another building. Local style. Staff do not speak English. Not attentive. No room clean in 1 week or hot water for tea in room. This is my 4th time staying in Happo, Hakuba. Each time a different hotel. Although this is cheaper there are much better options available for same price.
