We chose Waterbird as it is walking distance to the Su’ao Veterans Hospital where my father-in-law had been admitted. Unfortunately it is not convenient to anything else other than the bus stop. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance. We booked at very late notice and arrived 30 minutes later at about 7.30 pm. There was no-one onsite. We phoned the owner and they told us where to find the door key. After dropping our bags we walked back to the hospital. On our return to the Villa, the hosts were there and were very friendly. The twin room was large with 2 very comfortable double beds. The en-suite was also large with a spacious shower and plenty of hot water. The room was clean although the cleaning of the toilet was not complete. The drain plug in the sink became stuck in the morning and would not drain. There was a kettle and some tea bags. The window blinds in the room were only day blinds providing no privacy at night but given the isolation of the villa, you don’t have to be overly concerned. More importantly, the blinds do not block the sunlight which meant that our room was filled with light as the sun rose. I had my eye covers with me which countered this problem. Breakfast was not included although I think with more notice this could have been arranged. There is a kitchen in the Villa and I suggest contacting the host ahead of booking to see to what extent guests can use this. Overall it’s a very nice property but the hosts need to improve the service including providing better information as to what is offered.

Maybe there is something lost in translation about the name of the hotel. It is a B&B not a villa. We were not given any instruction how to get to the place (eg, which train station I should get off?) Very poor communication with the owner on how to get to the place and the check-in and check-out information. Don't mention the included breakfast, which may cost under 100$NTD, preference and allergy?? Cleaness IS NOT something you may find here. That night it rained so the humidity was high in the house. Although there was a dehumidifier in the bathroom, the room was pretty damp. When we rolled down one of the shades, one tiny gecko jump off. 15 minutes later there was a cockroach at the corner. We booked this place in the small town because we wanted to see some of the small village scenery and the countryside. The brochures presented in the living room had nothing to do the local town nor the county, only a bigger beach area further north and other touristic attractions. Before arriving, had a few phone calls with the owner and got a notice saying that the kitchen area is not available for guests. Yes, you think staying one night will lead us to use your beautiful kitchen for a Thanksgiving turkey feast? It rained all evening and with the scooter we rented, the closest place we can find food is a 7-11 and we were not even allow to use the microwave oven in the house? Needless to say that the view was so great that we saw the road on the back and muddy pond on the side. For those who want to visit the surrounding area during your visit, forget it. You are supposed to check out by 11AM and take your luggage with you. We get served breakfast (some hired staff bought some sandwiches in a plastic bag with not so warm milk tea) and then she left, not a single word. We prepared our luggage by 10 AM and left for a scooter ride (before the next train at 2 PM to Hualien). I got a phone call a bit past 11 AM telling us that we were supposed to 'check-out' or see ourselves out as I would put it, by 11 AM. Then the staff can clean our room. So we turned around, bought some food on the way back and decided to have our lunch in the living room before taking off to the train station. Apparently this was not acceptable by the owner, who was informed by the staff over the phone. I wanted to meet the owner to tell her my experience at her place but she did not show up at the time she said she would. So we called a taxi on our own and left for the train staff. Such a terrible hospitality!

We stayed here whilst travelling around Taiwan by train. The taxi driver got lost on the way to the Villa so l rang the owner and Stephen came and collected us in minutes. Fabulous service. Our room and the Homestay were lovely. Spotlessly clean, very modern and comfortable. Stephen and his family drove us into Su'ao port and gave us a sight seeing tour on the way with plenty of tips for dining out. Breakfast was great fun sitting at a communal table and meeting the other guests and families. The food was interesting, different (as you should expect when traveling in other countries) and very enjoyable. Stephen ordered a taxi for us on our departure. All in all he couldn't have done more for us. I would definitely return and would highly recommend staying here to get a real taste of Taiwan.

This is a beautiful and well-situated B&B with a friendly host. It's right next to a waterbirds conservation area, so you can get to see the waterbirds right out of your bedroom window. However, There was still much room for improvement in regard to the cleanness of the floor, the taste and quality of the food and drinks, and the hospitality of the staff. We saw some hair on the bedroom floor left by former tenants. The spaghetti we ate for breakfast seemed to be made from ready-to-cook or ready-to-eat food. And we hardly saw the host and hostess during our stay. On top of that, there was no free bicycles provided, which was quite rare for B&Bs in this area, and we could hardly receive the wifi signals in the bedroom.
