That review by 'Look Elsewhere' is so inaccurate. We travel to, and stay, in this cottage every year now. After a 10 hour flight it is so nice to arrive to the open fire and the tranquility that this cottage provides. I disagree with this negative post, on the contrary, we have received nothing except kindness and a heartfelt greeting from Roisin. My children really liked her a lot, as do we, or we would not make this an annual event. I wish all hosts were as welcoming! As for the heating. Yes the cottage is remote, but central heating is provided and is VERY easy to operate. Choosing such a remote, picturesque location as Annies Cottage will mean that it will be cold, it's part of the package. We utilized the open fire which most of the time meant we do not need to put the central heating on, even at night; we simply allow the heat from the living room to circulate around the cottage, otherwise the living room becomes too hot. Yes, there are many other choices around, but Annies Cottage is special which is CLEAR when you read the comments in her guest book.

Thank you very much Conor for taking the time to write such a positive review of Annie’sCottage. It has been a pleasure to welcome you and your family at Christmas on several occasions and I look forward to welcoming you again this coming Christmas for 3weeks! It has also been a pleasure to welcome your brother-in-law and family who have stayed on your recommendation. I know you love the surroundings and the weather which is very different from your climate! Now, you even leave the children’s wellies at the cottage from year to year! So glad you like the open fire.

Cottage super confort, bien équipé et doté d’un petit jardinet très bien entretenu. Parfait pour un séjour en famille. Idéalement situé dans Bushmills : tout est accessible à pieds (les nombreux commerces, les pubs, l’arrêt de bus...)

I liked the rural settling which made for a very peaceful time in the cottage, although this may not suit everyone, especially if you're looking for attractions or entertainment nearby. I like to support small, local businesses but not, however, when they have a terrible attitude to service and value for money. The cottage was very remote and hard to find with little consideration given to tourists and travellers who do not know the area. My big concern was the attitude of the owner when I had issues with the central heating. Staying in rural County Antrim in autumn requires heating and with the very high rates charged by the owner this should not be a problem. My young family and I were forced to prepare for a wedding in the cold cottage and when I tried to speak to the owner about this I had a very unpleasant experience. When we were at the wedding the owner visited and left a very meanly worded letter written with contempt for the paying customers. I have travelled extensively around the world and stayed in just about everything from a shed to a seven star hotel but never have been made to feel so unwelcome by an owner. My advice to Roisin is to have a little more respect for the people who are paying for her nice house in far off Portstewart, to be a little more concerned about how the hospitality industry works and to take some of the large sums of cash her cottage brings in and invest this in some better heating solutions. With her eyes opened she might even be able to find some of the wild geese she wrote about in her letter to me! My advice to potential customers is simply to look elsewhere, you can do a whole lot better!!!!!!

I wish to clarify the fact that this guest didn’t stay at Annie’s Cottage so the review isn’t relevant to Annie’s. He actually stayed at my other cottage. It was the brother of this guest who made the booking and I had no direct communication with this guest before his stay. I can only assume that there were gaps in communication between him and the person who made the booking because I sent clear directions to my two properties which were booked for a weekend so that guests could attend a wedding. That is my only explanation for the fact that the guest had difficulty in finding the cottage. I am glad that the guest enjoyed the peaceful setting of my cottage in our area of outstanding natural beauty. Perhaps he perceived the cottage as being remote but it was chosen by his brother because of its proximity to the wedding venue and my other guests from other countries who have a wide perspective on distance, often comment on how conveniently located the property is to the beautiful North Antrim Coast,Causeway and Glens. I’m sorry the guest found the cottage expensive but the rates are very similar to Cottages in the area which are akin to mine. The guest was under the impression that there was a problem with the heating and that it needed upgrading but actually this was not the case. The heat is always set to come on morning and evening but guests also have complete access to override the settings if they wish and the instructions are displayed on the noticeboard. Having received a voicemail from the guest that there was a problem with the heating, I tried to call him six times with no success. It is regrettable that he felt unhappy as, in order to do my best to ensure that my guests were comfortable, I made a 50 mile round trip to the property (the manager who lives nearby was employed elsewhere that night). When I arrived the cottage was toasty warm, the heating was on and no one was in. The manager and I always endeavour to remedy any problem promptly but, this time, my journey had been in vain. Let’s just put it down to the fact that direct communication was difficult since this guest was not the person who had made the booking and things can be unclear amid the excitement of a wedding!
