BULLET POINTS 1 On arrival NO RECEPTION AREA - wondered around outside aimlessly until stumbled across a member of staff through a window. Given loads of forms and a drink. Member of staff very pleasant and helpful 2. Going out for the evening had a bath couldn't wash my hair as NO hairdryer 3. No instructions - TV, (is there a hairdryer?) telephone assistance etc Most hotels (due to COVID) leave a single sheet photocopy. 4. On returning cant get in as I have left the code in my other handbag (my fault) its like an old B and B in the 70s Telephone number on front door goes to answer phone. Have to drive to Milsoms and ask for help. The Maison Talbooth is out in the stick and there is a large car park at the front of the hotel, as a woman on her own with no reception, it is creepy. 5. Back in my room I decide to have a cup of tea - NO MILK - NO cup of tea 6. Breakfast - if you are happy with cocopops (classy) and a bit of toast - alls good. But should you want an egg you have to drive down the road to another hotel - last order 930. No spoiling the guests here. I go away a lot and I read reviews when choosing hotels. On the whole I find them helpful however I have no understanding, NONE how anyone could rate this hotel highly . The basics are not present - however the staff are very pleasant. I have given 2 stars as the bed linen is nice, the bed is comfortable and it is quiet. I paid £600 for two nights bed and breakfast as a solo guest which included 3 treatments.…
We booked the Maison Talbooth despite it being over twice as expensive as it’s sister hotel, Milsoms. Meals were provided at Milsons which is very close. The food was excellent. As regards the Maison Talbooth: The pool area was excellent The staff were very good I am giving three stars because the state of the room was not what I would expect for the price paid. It was in need of decoration. Paint was peeling. wallpaper was coming off the wall/ceiling. The bathroom was also, in my opinion, drab. My advice is that unless you want to swim save your money and stay at Milsoms
We have just returned from a three night mini break at Maison Talbooth. Those looking to “get away from it all“ would perhaps be well advised not to choose this hotel as there is a constant noise from the nearby A12 dual carriageway. We were also disappointed to find that our rear balcony, while in itself pleasant, was regularly invaded by smoke from the wood burning boiler. Our room itself was perfectly pleasant and very comfortable but the general level of service we received was not what one would expect from the hotel at this price point. We had asked for a full room service to be carried out and were disappointed on one morning to note that the bottom sheet had not been touched, tissues had been left in the bed and no one had even discovered that there was a hot water bottle lying cold at the bottom of the bed. Also, the water glass had not been changed. We were surprised that the small bottle of milk in the fridge was left unchanged for three days as well. No doubt because of Covid, the breakfast service was very restricted. Hot food was only available if you were prepared to go to their sister restaurant half a kilometre away and the continental breakfast on offer at the hotel itself was limited. On one morning for example we asked for a second croissant only to be told that these had to be pre-ordered. On the final day, we had to leave at 8 o’clock in the morning but no breakfast was available other than an offer of a croissant. All small things perhaps but not the experience one might expect at £300 a night. On the plus side, the staff were willing to do anything you asked and were all very charming. Also, the pool complex is really delightful and something of a rarity – a large heated pool in a secluded sunny spot. On the plus side, the staff were willing to do anything you asked and were all very charming. In addition, very good precautions have been taken to deal with the virus and we felt that they were really taking the whole matter very seriously indeed both in the hotel and in the two sister restaurants. Great location with the sister hotel & restaurants having a curtesy car to ferry between them. Staff are super friendly offering good service. Swimming pool & jacuzzi at the pool house are in a perfect spot to enjoy the sun until it goes down. Honesty bar ( good range) with tea & coffees available all day. There’s a snack menu for lunch only; simply call up & order for it to be delivered poolside. Unfortunately during our visit there were continental breakfasts only in your room but you could be ferried to Milsoms hotel for a full English. We were told normally hotel serves breakfast in lobby areas & drinks service which would make it sociable. Full English tea normally too. Alas COVID19 restricts socialising! The room we stayed in was a little tired, seat cushions very grubby & the toenail cuttings on the floor by bed we found weren’t a highlight I must say! We enjoyed the spa treatments, lots of options & good products used.…
Fantastic hotel with great facilities and wonderful service .. breakfast is the best fresh food you will ever taste. They provide luxury complimentary travel to and from the Talbooth .. also the best bed assured you sleep soundly. Can’t even begin to bleet about how brilliant the staff are .
