I was recently at this hotel and I felt really good. The rooms are quite spacious, airy and linen is clean. The view is gorgeous. Staff are cute and kind. Durau Monastery is very close. I recommended.
It's an old hotel... Probably that s why i did not like it. First of all my bathroom didn t have window, so it was a lot of mold in there... I was afraid to get close to the walls of the shower. Additionally, the sewerage it is not good and we have in our bathroom a kind of flood. It was terrible! The food was not very good. Also, not all rooms have a balcony. If you go there in winter you should take a blanket or something to keep you warm. Be careful! There are 2 types of room. Some of them have bed springs. Also there are little beds and large beds... But I advise you to ask for a large one. The only good part is that the hotel is very close to the ski slope.
I stayed there on several occasions. The hotel is decent, and the rooms are OK in size. While there's not much to do in Durau, if you choose to go hiking on the mountain (I recommend going at least as high as the Fantanele chalet or to the Duruitoarea waterfall; the more brave can hike to the Dochia chalet, it takes about 8 hours to get there and then back to Durau - totally worth the effort!) you will definitely return pretty much busted. Then you will see the true value of the rooms. The beds are good, there's hot water to take that much deserved shower, and then lay back while you watch some TV. I did not try the restaurant, so I cannot express my opinion on this subject. There's free parking near the hotel, and also free WiFi, but this is only downstairs, in the lobby. Note that the hotel does not have an elevator, so you will have to drag yourself and your heavy luggage up the stairs. So you get some free fitness sessions as well, compliments of the house! Stuff to do in Durau: visit the Durau monastery and/or go hiking (there are some very nice trails worth taking - note that you will have to pay a fee before going up the mountain: 5RON/adult (~1EUR), 2RON/child (~0.5EUR))…
