Would not recommend this hotel. Received the worst customer service ever. I stayed there for 2 nights and booked a room with complimentary breakfast. In the morning I had to request for my breakfast. After showing them evidence that my booking included breakfast, the very rude receptionist told me that they do not serve breakfast at the weekends and thus she couldn't help me. I had booked my room through a travel website (Jumia travel/jovago travel). I called the travel company and they were also very rude. Long story short I did not get my breakfast for any of the 2 days. Please stay somewhere else if you can. Avoid this place.
From what I can tell we were the first people ever to book House14 via Expedia. We paid online in sterling hard currency for a ‘Superior Suite’. I called in advance to check the reservation and the owner did not have it. He explained that his comms with Expedia were not properly established as he was signed up recently by one of Expedia's local agents. He was for example unclear how to claim the money we paid from Expedia. A call to Expedia sorted this out very quickly. Easy fix House14 was relatively easy to find for our driver from the airport (Naira 6,000 fare) and is in one of the best neighbourhoods in Abuja - Wuse II. The property is surrounded by an electrified fence and has a manned, strong, security gate and 24 hour concierge at the doors to the suites. We felt quite safe even when we had to walk to the hotel from a couple of blocks away because one Uber driver screwed up navigation on one of several trips back. (Tip: Make sure one of your first stops is to pick up a local SIM card when you get to Abuja - at the airport after 0900 or at the Hilton). We stayed in the badged ‘Diplomat Suites’ on the third floor one down from the ‘Ambassador Suites’ on the top floor. These were clean and the beds firm and comfortable. Do not accept anything less than these suite grades if you book ‘Superior Suites’ through Hotels.com or Expedia. The rooms were spacious and cleaned each day to a high standard and the linen was crisp and clean. Air conditioning worked fine. Bottled water was provided free by concierge when asked for. The bathroom, toilet and shower were adequate and power cuts few and far between. It was also a very quiet location apart from the Muslim call to prayer at 0545 each morning in the distance (something you would be unlikely to be bothered with if you stayed at the triple-glazed Hilton for 4/5 times the price!). To me it was a bit of local authenticity and you could sleep though it if you are a heavy sleeper.... :-) A big upside for this hotel was that we were able to check in early (0800hrs) as our rooms were free. Nice touch for weary travellers! The biggest downside was that the TV channels were not tuned properly which frankly is sloppy given the size of the satellite dish located prominently in the yard outside. The hotel needs to get this sorted and make sure that a couple of western channels are available (BBC World, CNN) now that they are selling on Expedia. Get this sorted and for the money I would give it 5 stars. Wifi was a bit ropey too. Speed was determined by how many people were taking up the pipe but emails could be received well enough and Wuse is well covered by 3G cells. Overall, not bad value for money. The hotel is a 7 minute Uber rider from the Hilton where you can pay a day rate to sit by the pool. If you are not on a corporate expense account then this is a good alternative base where you don’t have to worry too much about the security of your kit while you are off doing business in the capital. A good 3 star hotel/motel experience with good hygiene and security for an intrepid traveller.…
It's a nice 2/3 star considering it has the ratings of a 2 star but with more amenities like a 3 star. It's located within a residential area making it very private. It's not too far from the Central Business District and ares like Maitama. It's got excellent room service, the staff are exceptional polite, on time and very helpful. It's got different rooms to fit any budget. They serve breakfast, have a wonderful Potter, there kitchen is 24/7. I liked it's privacy and though it's got no pool, it's one place I will stay again.
