Within the architectural limitations, the staff of the hotel go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. The food, albeit without a menu card, is decent. The staff again try to meet your needs within their limitations. The housekeepers too appear to take pride in what they do. The only negative is that the restaurant opens only after 07:00. You can’t even get a cup of tea till then. For an early riser like me that was a particular irritant.

Very good building, but poor hospitality. No professionalism in staff dealings. Turns away most requests. Need repeated pressure to get things done. Poor response even from restaurants. Allotted a room with no window to outside. Ill planned lighting. Non courteous staff.

Opted this hotel due to proximity for a family get together with a buffet lunch. There were only a few staffs to serve and assist. The Electrision and the manager were the only guys to serve. If you ask any help, will take hours to get attended. AC in the mini conference hall is not capable enough to make the room cool with fourty people. Kids were swetting and crying. Also the food items were very limited and not tasty. I think even they dont have a dedicated cook after the bar licence got cancelled. Chilly chicken was dipped with vineger and no one liked it. Red rice, fried rice, chapati, gopi, chilli chicken, thoran, aviyal, pulissery, raitha, ice cream and tea with banana fry were the items for Rs 380. Inside Trivandum city you can find many budget lunch hotels with countless dishes within this price range. I have ordered chicken fry from outside in last moment. The manager in the reception was not ready to give bills, and asked me to wait 20 minutes for the same. Not suggested

My family and cousin's choose to stay at Hotel Karthika Residency due to its proximity to Trivandrum where we were host a wedding the next day. We arrived at the hotel by 7:30pm on 21/05/2014. We were directed to the parking by a security guard, at reception we were given keys to the respective rooms and a staff assisted us in taking our baggage to the rooms. We had booked 2 types of rooms the deluxe and standard type of room, both the rooms had on-suite bathroom, air con and TV with double beds, the deluxe room was spacious, the standard rooms were quite small and difficult to accommodate guest and baggage in the same room, not much space after off-loading baggage. The standard rooms also had a strange ordor as if not well maintained. We were 12 family members went to the restaurant by around 8:15pm, there was only 1 waiter for the restaurant(think we were the only guest in the restaurant), while placing the order we were told may of the items on the menu were not available(due to the cook being incompetent to cook them or the manager was using a ploy to give us the standard menu items that could be cooked easily and hoped for a early close of the restaurant), we had to settle for the few options on the menu, then on started the terrible service, the food took almost 1.5hrs to arrive and not all the ordered food was served, especially the order for a simple lime based juice took 1 hour. after the mediocre and under served food we were tried and ready to get some sleep. As we were 16 people(4 relatives joined us after dinner as they were travelling from kozhikode) we had booked 4 deluxe and 2 standard rooms, a deluxe room bed comfortably sleep 2 people, hence 2*4 = 8 people in deluxe rooms and 2 per standard room = 4 people, that left us with 4 more people, as there were no more ac rooms available(quite a necessity in the month of May in Kerala) at the time of booking we order extra bed in each of the deluxe rooms(extra beds are a provided at an extra cost which we were ready to pay for) to our shock and surprise we were provided with mattresses that had to be spread on the floor for our guest to sleep which was unacceptable(we had stayed in hyson hotel in kozhikode and were provided with comfortable extra beds as requested for the price of Rs500.00/ per bed, as charged at Hotel Karthika residency) we complained to the staff who were not even willing to offer us another alternative and we were forced to accommodate 3 people per bed in the deluxe rooms and had to take a non-ac room for one of our guest. The next morning we ordered room service as we were busy preparing for the wedding dressing, grooming, etc.. the restaurant was supposed to open by 7am but there wasn't anyone taking orders till 7:30am that too after several request and heated arguments with the staff, room service was a nightmare, with orders being served at least 1-1.5hrs since placing the order, simple things like coffee were delayed for almost an hour, other guest who came to meet us at the hotel were also not served breakfast at the restaurant in a timely manner. We need to use the hall/conference room at the hotel for prayers and photo sessions, the conference room was stacked with chairs and kitchen utensils which were hastily pushed to the sides before the function started, the request for the air con in the conference room had to be made several times. Due to the delay in the room service and organizing of the conference room we were running short on time, when we were ready to check out the bill wasn't ready and we waited for 30mins for the bill which still wasn't ready, there was one staff at reception to receive new guest and settle our bill, he clearly was overwhelmed by the task and just didn't know who to serve. All in all the experience was very terrible and I think the staff aren't trained or motivated to portray customer service, the management of Hotel Karthika Residency should take responsibility for this pathetic service and put measures to make the guest experience if not great(its hard to expect from them!!) but at least comfortable and stress free, The staff and management certainly aren't capable to handle a full capacity hotel of 20+ guest at a time. Even basic service as providing drinking water in the rooms were overlooked. The bathrooms are poorly designed with flooding the bathroom after a bath/shower, the slope to the drain in the shower/bath is not well designed or built. The cooling of the air cons were not controlled, with old guest they found it quite cold in the night as the air con remained to operate on low temperatures even after a technician adjusted the air con. Simple and basic things that would add to guest comfort and hospitality were blatantly ignored. Certainly NOT RECOMMENDED!! stay away from this place...
