We stayed at the historic Mary Elizabeth Stallworth Home in Beatrice whe we traveled to Alabama for the annual production of To Kill a Mockingbird. The home is lovely and Allison and David are the perfect hosts. We felt completely at home during our stay, free to roam around the house and grounds, taking in all of its charm. Allison and David were a wealth of information about the play, where to eat, tour and shop, and history of the house itself. We were also treated to a fabulous home cooked breakfast both mornings and left with some local venison sausage. I would encourage anyone to visit the Mary Elizabeth Stallworth Home and experience some true southern hospitality.
Last weekend my wife and I traveled to Monroeville for the annual production of To Kill a Mockingbird. The Mary Elizabeth Stallworth Home was booked for a wedding, but Allison called and told me they had a room available at the Burgess-Sanders-Steele house, just a few minutes north of town. We shared the house with one other couple, and it was wonderful. The house is gorgeous. The owners were SO friendly and helpful. Allison gave us lots of tips about our trip, and David got us a dinner reservation at the Prop and Gavel, so we would have time to eat, see the heritage museum and make it to the play on time. We chose the bedroom in the back corner, across the hall from the restroom. The bed was so comfortable, the sheets were amazingly soft, and the pillows were out of this world. We told Allison and David just to drop some breakfast foods in the refrigerator, as we were not sure how late we would sleep, but I am so glad they didn't listen. We had some of the best biscuits I have ever eaten, served with Pea Hull Jelly (AMAZING!), eggs, grits, sausage and bacon. Would highly recommend calling Allison and David if you are going to Monroeville for To Kill a Mockingbird, or any time your travels take you to their corner of the world. You won't be disappointed!…
What a wonderful experience. We had the entire house to ourselves, and what a gorgeous and restful place to be! The owners went way, way, way out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay, and the house was...well, what can I say? It was heaven. We stayed there because we attended the theatrical production of To Kill a Mockingbird in Monroeville. I only wish we had stayed longer. I want to go back just for the experience of the house itself.
