We made a last-minute decision to go to Grand Lake for the July Fourth weekend, but all our normal spots were booked. We'd driven by the Westerner dozens of times, and decided to give it a try. It exceeded all of our expectations. We called Saturday morning to make a reservation for later that day, and the manager said he had a room, and we could even check in early if we needed (that never happened--I-70 was a parking lot, and the 2-hr trip from north Denver took 4 hours). The room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was spotless, and you can't beat the price. Will definitely stay here again.
We arrived labor day weekend without reservations, took last room after speaking with the owner what a colorful local laughed about the train that passes through every night. Gave us some very good advice on places to see in just a weekend trip. Followed his advice where to eat the food very western country just loved it. We plan on going back.
We stayed in the Westerner Motel in March of 2014. We were on a snowmobiling weekend and had our two dogs (a cocker spaniel and a golden retriever) with us. We found the room clean, with clean sheets, comfortable beds and the bathroom was clean. My only disappointment was when I called to book a reservation this year, the owners had changed their dog policy, not allowing dogs. Except for that, we would have stayed at the Westerner again.
