We loved this stay. It's expensive (everything is in Norway) and for us it was well worth it. We stayed in igloo 4 and were pleased with the thoughtful little luxuries this place included in that price (we have sometimes experienced "luxury" stays that then nickel and dime you for everything).
The igloo was plenty warm! All the firewood you need is included and delivered. There are also space heaters and a huge down comforter. Slippers are provided so you don't track your wet boots all over. It was cozy and lovely.
Breakfast, included, and dinner, self-pay, can be delivered to your accommodation. This was wonderful and we absolutely loved our cozy evenings and mornings with our meals. There is only one vegetarian dinner option, so after I had that our first night, I did a ready-meal packet from their convenience store for my second night. Breakfast is delicious and had some nice breads (cinnamon roll, croissant). Dinner comes in a nice basket with the stews in cast iron pots. Very charming --one stew may be enough to share with one other person if you are not big eaters.
We had a beautiful view out across the water and felt so lucky to have two clear gorgeous nights of aurora. The clear panels on the igloo do let you see if aurora is out (and the desk will text you an alert to look until 10:30 PM) but to truly see it, you'll need to get out of your accommodation. I preferred this a LOT to an aurora chase we did because the aurora chase was so so cold and, once cold, no way to warm up. Here, I just popped back into the igloo.
Bathrooms are nice and heated, which was great. I also reserved the included sauna, and it has an attached bathroom. So it was nice to have that to myself for an hour.
I agree with the negative reviews of including an electric rental car when the property doesn't have charging. Including the car is terrific. We liked the freedom it gave us and driving in Norway was not hard. But having never used an e-vehicle made it a bad choice. The person at the rental told us when we asked about recharging, "it's easy, just follow the screens". It's not easy, it takes a long time that you have to wait, and requires apps that no one explained to us. If they include an e-vehicle, the rental company needs to be ready to explain better. Also the rental guy goes to lunch midday for an indeterminate time and then you just have to wait as no one comes in while he is gone. I won't ever rent an e-vehicle again after this experience.

We have mixed emotions writing this review. On the one hand, we had a nice stay and achieved our goal of seeing the aurora from bed in our glass lodge. Aera, however, seems to suffer from an identity crisis. Are they a primarily self serve “camp” or a luxury accommodation as the very high price suggests?
Positives: - Beautiful, panoramic view of the fjord and mountains - Breakfast brought to you each morning - Rental car included with the room - Young man who ran the King Crab Experience was friendly and enthusiastic, assuring we were served before a large tour group came in.
Concerns: - The rental car was electric and they do not have a charging station. The closest charger is 25 minutes away. - You need to pull the curtains up in the panoramic room if you want any privacy. They are right next to each other. - A great deal of light pollution. - As others have stated, little room for suitcases and the shower flooded. - You are 35 minutes from town and there is no bar available to relax. There is a lavvu with a fire but you need to bring your own drink. - The “restaurant” is not really a restaurant. You preorder your food during the day and they hand you a pot of what your ordered at the table when you arrive. Not really actual service and not even light music playing in the background.
It has potential to be a lovely resort but the way it is currently run, we would not go back for the price.

I was skeptical to book this place at first because of the prices but this place exceeded my expectations. The serenity. The atmosphere the service and the facilities justify the price. It's not luxury but it feels luxury. They even said they dont aim for luxury but to give guests the luxury experience with the feeling of comfort. They deliver you breakfast in bed! The staff take care of you like hosts not staff.m The team there were always responsive. The cabins are cozy it felt more at home than a hotel ever could. I also joined the king crab tour I can't say enough how awesome it is to eat fresh king crab booked right in front of you. Icing on the cake was dancing around all over the sky with no light pollution

Many people write reviews and fail to address issues with management while at the property - that is not the case here. We attempted to resolve ours with the management but unfortunately had limited success. While we received a single reply from the General Manager with an apology and a complimentary bottle of wine, there was no further communication and silence after an additional request. Both the on-site front desk staff—both night and day —acknowledged our experience was unacceptable and assured us they would take action, but nothing materialized.
This property is advertised as a luxury, premium destination. While it is a pleasant place, it is more akin to a high-end Airbnb or a 3-star bed and breakfast. For the price we paid—over 15,000 NOK per night (approximately $1,322 before taxes)—the overall experience fell far short of expectations.
Key Issues
1. Shower Issues • Night One: The shower flooded immediately, rendering it unusable. The property offers “camp showers” located 200 meters away and no one is in the front office late to help. Imagine paying 15,000 NOK per night and needing to get dressed and walk that distance for a shower. We reported to the office in the morning and they said they would fix. Camp prices acceptable, Premium pricing, not acceptable.
• Night Two: After returning late from the Tromsø Polar Night Marathon, we attempt to shower again and the shower flooded immediately again. My wife had to use the camp showers. Luckily she saw staff as the front office was closed and the night front desk staff came and plunged it to fix it. Camp prices acceptable, Premium pricing, not acceptable.
2. Housekeeping Failures
Upon returning from our first day exploring Tromsø, we found that housekeeping had only performed basic bed service. They left all the trash and dirty dishes from the previous guest, did not unload the dishwasher, and failed to refresh our towels. This level of service is unacceptable at this price point. We reported to the night manager as he was plunging the shower, he agreed that was not acceptable. Again Camp prices acceptable, Premium pricing, not acceptable.
3. Electric Rental Car
The provided rental car came from “Rent a Wreck”—and ours had, in fact, been wrecked. While the damage wasn’t major (a smashed fender), it was not what one expects from a luxury service. Additionally, there is no shuttle from the airport to the off-site rental facility, requiring a 15-minute walk with luggage through snow-covered streets and sidewalks to an off site Maintenance Garage Building . Yes the sidewalks were not clear and it was snowing when we arrived.
To compound matters, there was no electric car charger available on-site at the hotel, and the hotel provides an electric car. Given that the property is 25–30 minutes from town and the nearest charging station, this was an inconvenience that required planning.
Additional Observations
Light Pollution
The website claims that the property’s location has “no light pollution, making the chances of seeing the northern lights very high.” While the location is scenic, there is noticeable light from nearby units and neighboring houses along the coast. The units are also quite close together, and on our first night, our neighbor left all their lights on while they were away, which illuminated our unit.
The Panorama Units are small and lack storage space, leaving suitcases in the middle of the room. The bathroom is tiny but functional, and the bed is comfortable.
Would I have been satisfied if the price were lower or if management had acknowledged their failures with a refund or more substantial compensation? Yes.
Tromsø is a stunning location, and waking up to the views from the bed was a highlight. However, the combination of service failures and the high cost undermined the experience.
This property has potential but does not deliver the luxury experience it promises for the premium price charged. I really just feel duped by the website traveling all the way from the United States for less than premium expereince.

We loved this place! We stayed in a very cosy cabin. The staff was very welcoming and the dinner experience in the lavuu was a lifetime memory. The lavuu is a traditional style hut with a wood fireplace in the middle. Our dinner was served in a basket with warm stew in a pot and crispy bread to warm on the fire. We enjoyed hanging out there after dinner, roasting marshmallows and meeting other travelers. We loved our cabin, but would try to stay in the panoramic glass cabins if we had the opportunity to return in the future. The sauna was lovely as well! We got hit with a heavy snowstorm while we were there, so we were not able to get out and about to explore beyond the property, but we enjoyed hiking around the property, building a snowman, and relaxing in our cabin. We took advantage of the free rental car, and everything worked out well although our return drive to the airport was a bit scary in the snowstorm. Other guests had opted for a taxi, and their taxi rides were cancelled several times- be aware. One of the best things about this lodge is the friendly and kind staff! We recommend this place to people who would like to have time outside the city of Tromso and in a quiet and scenic area. I think it would be a great place to see the northern lights, but there was heavy snow while we were there. We did see some faint lights one of the nights when the clouds cleared. It’s a special place!
