We came in to town with some vehicle issues and were able to secure some beds at the Piano Lounge and they were very accommodating and helped us with all the needs we had. We were able to park our cars in the private parking lot and work on fixing the vehicle problem in the morning. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the bathrooms were also clean and much appreciated. We did not eat that night, so I cannot comment on the food, but I already plan on making a special trip back to Marlborough to stay here again. What an enjoyable end for a difficult day.
Looking for a quiet weekend break and were a bit intrigued by the pub's name (although we found out it is soon to change to Hope & Crown due to new owners). Lovely setting and super beer choices, rear car park was a big bonus too. Staff were very attentive and we had a lovely top floor room, ticked all the boxes! Excellent meals, I'm sure we'll be back!
I was invited to go for supper with friends and was a bit wary as the place ahsn't had a great reputation. Its under new management and it shows. I had a chicken pate starter that was delicious and the best paella I've had in ages, so much so that when I went back week later with my sister I asked if I could have it again at lunchtime and even though it wasn't on the lunch menu, if I didn't mind waiting it would be made for me. Happy days - you can't ask for more than that. Lunch for 3 including a pint/wine each was just under £40. Great value
I booked accommodation on Booking.com in March, it has subsequently been removed so you can't book it. I booked 2 double rooms to stay on Saturday 2nd July. They called me in early June to confirm. At the last minute I change one double to a twin room. We arrived and the rooms were terrible. Room 3 (Twin) had no tea or coffee, mugs or cupboard. There was some sugar and a kettle on a tray on the floor! It had a TV with a dirty TV control, with the back stuck on with grey tape. The carpet in the room was very dirty. The en-suite had a shower with no hot water (but we were told this, so it was okay as we had another room to shower in). There was a bright green emergency light above the door. Room 1 had nothing except a double and a single bed, no cupboard, bedside table or lamp or TV, no kettle, tea or coffee, mugs. It had a locked wardrobe! The private bathroom was clean but had used soap in it. We wanted to have a shower before going out for the evening but the towels were wet and no replacements were found. The Barman just said it was not his job but he would call the manager, he didn't turn up on Saturday night or Sunday morning. We went out and returned at 11pm to find nothing had been done. They did give us towels and moved me to Room 6 (Double). The room had no TV, coffee or tea. None of the rooms or bathrooms had a bin, although there was a sign in each bathroom asking not to flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilet. There was a loud band playing until well after midnight with rooms above. Guests should be told this in advance!!! The windows are not insulated and let in noise from outside and are drafty. No Wifi as advertised. No City View as advertised. And for some reason a £10 City Tax was included (Marlborough is not a city). After confirming I was staying weeks in advance I was expecting more. This place needs a lot of attention and someone to take responsibility for their guests.…
I gather the establishment is under new management. They have been refurbishing the hotel and have just started food this week. We dropped in and decided to grab a snack. We ended up having 3 courses each. The type of food was pate, haloumi cheese salad and stuffed mushrooms. Following this, risottos, paella, steak, for mains. We normally never have deserts. All of us had one, for example a warmed citron tart, which I have never had before. It was beautiful.
