After review of the annual cost of the bank's credit card fees we were charged, we decided we could use those funds to improve and maintain this 165 year old mansion better. It just didn't make good business sense for us to let those funds slip through our fingers when they could be used on what is important, preservation and protection of a national treasure.

Sounds like you might have opted not to join in on one of our exciting, fact-filled guided tours. The complimentary tours start every 10-15 minutes and last about 30 minutes. After the guided tour many of our guests then take their time to go through the home again and read the abundant amount of information, photograph vintage pictures and memorabilia, and just plainly take in the Hemingway "vibe" that inspire many of our guests to read Hemingway again, or take in one of the 15 movies based on his books, when they return home.
For all the guests who visit, the experience is different for each person. Some come with expectations of gaining literary insight, some come to experience the beautiful architecture of the limestone buildings built in 1849-51, some to just sit and meditate in the lush tropical gardens, some come just for the opportunity to see the world-famous six-toed cats, and some, come for a quick look-see but fall into a world of their own imagination and reminisce of a by-gone era and are captured by the beauty of nature and its foliage and felines that embellish this historical property.
The six-toed (polydactyl) cats are always an added treat and provide wonderful photo opportunities when visiting the estate. They also provide an insight to Ernest's softer human qualities in his love and caring for his felines.
